Who needs or who doesn’t need a Visa to Enter Germany

Germany is a wonderful place to visit or live in. This is due to the fact that the country is politically and economically stable. This makes it attractive to tourists, student, businessmen and businesswomen. However, most non-Germans need a visa to enter Germany but there are some exemptions. As some non-German country citizen have Visa-free entry into the county.

The first thing to do when you decide to visit Germany is to ask yourself if Citizens of your country need a German visa. Also, ask yourself the purpose of travel to Germany. Citizens from most third world countries need a German visa. This is the same for most Schengen member countries.

List of Countries who DO NOT need a German Visa to visit Germany

Schengen member countries allow citizens from 62 countries to enter Germany without a German visa. Therefore, citizens from these 62 countries can travel to Germany without a visa.

The visitors are allowed to stay in Germany for 90 days within a 6 months period. Visitors can travel to other Schengen countries. Also, they can engage in business, but not employment or any paid work.

The citizens from the above countries must obtain a German visa if they intend to stay in Germany for more than 3 months. For instance, if the applicant is coming to Germany for medical treatment, then they have to obtain a Medical/Health visa.

As of January 2021 citizens from these countries must obtain ETIAS to enter the Schengen zone. ETIAS (Electronic Travel Information and Authorization System) has been adopted by the European Commission. ETIAS costs €7. It takes less than 20 minutes to obtain the ETIAS. Its validity is the same as the holder’s passport’s validity.

Unlike those who do not need a German visa, citizens from the rest of the world’s countries need a visa to enter Germany. They must follow the application process for a German visa. That is to say, the applicant must gather all the required documents, book an appointment, pay the visa fee and submit the documents.
